People who suffer from allergies know that they can turn a perfectly fine day into an uncomfortable one. Often times, people with allergies have underlying nasal issues like a deviated septum or narrowed sinus openings that contribute to their condition. General allergists address allergy problems, but ignore nasal issues when treating patients. Ear, Nose and Throat doctors who are not allergists will treat nasal and sinus issues, but send patients to general allergists to treat their allergies.
In addition to being an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor, Dr. Menachof is a fellow in the Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy. This means he is able to address all the possible causes of your congestion and discomfort. He will treat both your allergies and nasal issues in the order he feels is correct for you and your specific condition. To understand the scope of your allergies, Dr. Menachof will often recommend that you have an allergy test performed by one of the nurses in his office. This test helps our treatment professionals determine what you are allergic to, and the severity level of each of your allergies so we can tailor your allergy treatment to your exact needs. At Advanced ENT Allergy Center, we have been helping patients all along the Front Range manage their allergies for over a decade. We are the experts in Denver, Colorado allergy treatment.
Allergy Testing
At Advanced ENT Allergy Center, our nurses perform allergy testing in-office. We use a skin test for a regional panel of environmental inhalant allergies that takes place on the forearm and upper arm. Your results are determined at the conclusion of the hour-long test. This method of skin testing identifies your allergen triggers and the severity level of your allergies. As soon as the test is complete, you will meet with Dr. Menachof or his Physician Assistant to discuss the results of your test along with possible treatment options.
Note: For young children who will not tolerate skin testing, we are able to use blood test results to determine allergies and their severity levels.
Allergy Treatment
At Advanced ENT Allergy Center, we treat our allergy patients in a variety of ways – ranging from symptom management with medicines to ultimately curing your allergies using immunotherapy. When it comes to treating your allergies, you have a number of options. We can help you explore the benefits of each so you can choose which option is best for you. Some of these options include:
Avoidance – Environmental control measures to reduce exposure to indoor and outdoor allergens can be very helpful in improving symptoms. Depending on your range of allergies, we can provide information to help you avoid those items that affect you most.
Medications – Various medications can improve or relieve allergy symptoms temporarily. This includes over-the-counter or prescription pills and nasal sprays. Many patients report a decrease in needed medication after immunotherapy begins.
Allergy Drops – Dr. Menachof is proud to offer Allergy Drops as a cure to seasonal allergies. The only cure for any inhaled allergy is desensitization, which increases your immune system’s tolerance to allergens over time. This treatment can be administered under the tongue daily through the use of Allergy Drops. At a microscopic level, Allergy Drops work much like shots, slowly desensitizing you to your allergies, and teaching your body not to react to allergic stimuli the way it has been. If you are a good candidate for Allergy Drops, your bottle will be mixed specifically for your allergies and their severity levels. One bottle contains a three month supply of Allergy Drops and is mailed directly to your house. Three drops under your tongue once a day is all it takes to cure your allergies forever. It doesn’t get much easier or more convenient than that. With today’s busy lifestyles, drops are an ideal solution for many of our Denver, Colorado allergy patients. To learn more, click here.
Allergy Shots – A series of weekly injections are administered to patients for a three to five year period. Shots are tapered off during the final 1-2 years. These injections cause your body to make blocking antibodies, stopping the allergic reaction from taking place. Patients taking injections must wait 20 minutes to monitor for any adverse reaction. Most insurance companies cover injections, though co-pays apply to each office visit.
