Being a ‘Patient’ Can Be Frustrating

There is a reason that the customers of doctors are called patients. We have all experienced it. We visit our doctor. We arrive on time and then patiently wait for our appointment. We meet with our doctor and tests are ordered. Once we are home, we call the testing center and schedule our test. We wait patiently for the day of the test and then wait patiently in the waiting room of the testing center until it is our turn for the test. We then wait patiently until the test has been reviewed by the appropriate Specialist, and then wait patiently until they contact our doctor’s office, and wait patiently again until our doctor’s office contacts us. We then return to our doctor’s office and wait patiently in the waiting room once again until it is our turn for our doctor to review the test with us. If surgery is required, we once again find ourselves waiting patiently for a call from the surgery center or hospital to schedule a date for the surgery. We arrive at the surgery center 2 hours early and wait patiently until it is time for our surgery. The surgery is performed, we heal nicely, and finally months after our initial visit our life picks up where it left off.

Think about what just happened. A process that could have taken several weeks turned into several months. We drove, waited, and then drove back to home or work. We waited again, drove somewhere else, waited there, and then drove back to home or work. We repeat this process over and over again until we were better. In a world where everything else seems to be moving faster and more efficiently, medicine lags behind.

Full Service Allergy Centers – A Better Way to Receive Care

Hay fever and pollenWhen it comes to nose, sinus and allergy care there are better ways to do this. When all parts of the process are located in the same place for instance, almost everything can be accomplished at the same time. For instance, a person coming into our office because of ongoing nasal issues will be evaluated by the doctor or mid-level provider. If a CT scan is needed to assess the extent of the problem, it can be performed at that time using an in-office low-dose sinus CT scanner. The scan can then be reviewed with you by the doctor immediately afterward. If allergies look to be a part of your problem, allergy testing can be performed at the same time as well. A streamlined allergy test, taking a little less than an hour, will not only identify what you are allergic to, but how allergic you are to each item tested. The combination of the evaluation, the CT scan and the allergy test in one visit provides an immediate and very specific treatment tailored to your unique issues. If surgery is indicated, this can be performed for almost all nose and sinus issues in our office, very comfortably and safely, using a local anesthetic and a small amount of oral sedation. Since this will be done in our office with the s ame staff you’ve already become familiar with, it can be scheduled in the very near future. This kind of medical care also limits your overall exposure to multiple facilities, multiple staff, and to higher risk environments like hospitals and surgery centers. This is extremely important during Coronavirus pandemic.

Full service medical offices like Advanced ENT and Allergy Center make life easier. In a very short period of time, your issues can be treated acutely and effectively, your quality of life can improve, and you will be able to get back to doing the things you love.
