Colorado Allergy and Asthma Testing and Treatment

Colorado Allergy Testing

At Advanced ENT Allergy Center, we treat allergies specific to the Denver, Colorado area. Dr. Menachof or his Physician Assistant may recommend that you schedule an allergy test after your initial visit. Our allergy testing panel includes the most common environmental inhalant allergens in Colorado and the surrounding region. We test for allergies to dust, cats, dogs, feathers, horses and the most prevalent trees, molds, weeds, brush and grasses in the area. During your hour-long in-office skin test, we are able to determine the allergies you have and the severity of those allergies. If intradermal allergy testing is not an option for you or your child, we can use blood testing to identify allergies. At the conclusion of your test, you will meet with Dr. Menachof or his Physician Assistant to discuss your treatment options.

Patient Instructions for Skin Testing:

  1. Schedule an appointment
  2. Three (3) days or 72 hours before your testing appointment is scheduled, please stop taking the following medications:
    • Antihistamines (Zyrtec & Claritin must be stopped for 1 week)
    • Decongestant / antihistamine combination medications
    • Any over-the-counter allergy medicines, cold & cough remedies
    • Any over-the-counter sleep aids, which usually contain a sedating antihistamine
    • Antidepressant such as Norpramin, Seroquel, Sinequan, Surmontil, Remeron and Vivactil should be stopped before testing. Please check with the prescribing doctor before doing this.
    • Zantac, Pepcid AC, Tagamet, which are OTC meds for reflux
    • Please inform our allergy nurse if you are on beta blocking medications
    • No Anti-inflammatories such as Celebrex or Bextra for 48 hours prior to testing.

PLEASE NOTE

You should continue to take as prescribed the following medications:

  • Antibiotics
  • All asthma medications
  • Prescription nasal sprays (like Flonase, Nasonex, Nasacort, Omnaris, etc.), with the exception of Astepro, which is an antihistamine
  • Decongestants that are not combined with an antihistamine
  • Allergy Drops, if you are coming in for an annual allergy retest
